‘DJ AHMET’
de Georgi M. Unkovski
com Arif Jakup e Agush Agushev
(2025 Cinema Futura)
"Macedonian coming-of-ager hits pleasurable but predictable notes. Georgi M. Unkovski’s is a charming but familiar look at the competing demands of youth. Many pleasures to come in Georgi M. Unkovski’s charming coming-of-ager. It becomes clear that DJ Ahmet is less about music than it is about rhythm. It is rhythm, too, that threatens to trip up Unkovski’s earnest effort. Warm, amenable drama."
Sight and Sound
"Overcomes the tired tropes of the coming-of-age subgenre with its authentic setting and characters, although it suffers in terms of rhythm. The charm and chemistry between the main players, the good-natured spirit of the film and the mix of naturalistic scenes and impressionistic segments makes the film vibrant and engaging. In terms of the editing, some scenes feel cut too early, obstructing the flow of the narrative. Inspired, varied camerawork with intense colours and the upbeat vibe."
