Rangum, Birmânia, 1918. Edward, um funcionário público do Império Britânico, foge da noiva Molly no dia em que ela chega para o casamento. Nas suas viagens, o pânico dá lugar à melancolia, ao vazio e à interrogação. Decidida a casar-se com ele, Molly segue o rasto do noivo em fuga.
